Five Reasons to Go Outside!

1. Vitamin D is FREE!

According to the Mayo Clinic, we all need Vitamin D to help our bodies build strong bones. One of the best sources for this vital nutrient is the sun. For people with darker pigmented skin, it may be necessary to take a supplement since our pigment acts as a natural sunblock. If you find yourself in this situation, try Nature Made. Nature Made is one of the more popular and trust brands I am aware of.

2. Immunity Support is always ok with me.

Being outside helps your body to expose itself to a few challengers. If you’re anything like me, pollen is the biggest fight you’ll ever have other than taxes. Sunlight energizes your T cells and those little boogers fight infection. Just by going outside, you’ll be THAT much stronger in the war of cooties we fight daily.

3. What about the Children?

I had no clue it even existed, but it does. Studies have shown that the more time our children spend indoors, the more they seem to develop an aversion to being outdoors, which creates space for Nature Deficit Disorder to develop. Especially in more urban areas where views of the lovely greenery of nature may be more scarce, it is imperative that we assist our youth in this growth area by TAKING them outside, instead of sending them outside. And no, Corronia de la Virrus has NOT helped us in this area.

4. Long live YOU!

Did you know that women who live near trees live longer and have a reduced risk of cancer? No really… A study performed by the Harvard School of Public Health actually verified the data and it was published in an article in NBC News. I live near lots of trees. So guess who you’ll be reading blogs from for a while?

I know there are seasons and times that don’t make this idea appealing, but even I, with my allergies and social anxiety, can find something to admire when I look at what nature has to show me on a daily basis. I worked in buildings and ships that didn’t provide ready access to windows or outdoor views. Now, my days of working from home allow me to just take in a few cool things like carpenter bees running into my window panes startling the heck out of me in the middle of a quiet day.

5. You can do ALL the things!

Now this is just my own little push into the equation. I don’t have a scientific article to link to this one. This is just Kelly telling you what works for this specific Kelly.

When I go outside, I may have a little list of things to do that I choose from. Sometimes I find out when I get there (I don’t recommend this mindset when visiting Target. That’s just irresponsible. And costly. I can prove it.)

Whatever my initial reason may be, the end result is what I enjoy. I have an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment when I go and find something to do. A few weeks ago, I walked my entire property and picked up all the bits and pieces of trash in my grass and especially around my garbage cans. I felt like I’d seriously conquered a small territory in life and I rewarded myself with an ice cold Pepsi.

Just do it…

No, I won’t lie and say that I am always on the hunt for something to get me on the other side of my door. However, I will definitely try to spead GOOD information that may help someone in a place of weakness. It costs me nothing to be a decent human being.

Take Care of Yourselves…
